Container gardening

I found this book in a local garden center in Saint Louis last winter. It was such a inspiration in the midst of the cold and damp season. I'd flip through it and dream of the things I could do with planters again. Over the spring and summer I finally was able to do a few containers and they've done well. I studied how the sun shines on my space and where the shady places are. So, I'm excited to plant some containers up with flowers for cutting next season.

There really are a bounty of possibilities. I've grown fruit and veggies in containers as well as herbs, and roses. The trick is using the right soil for what you're growing and finding right amount of water that it likes. As far as light, if you find that it's getting too much or too little, you can move it. Also, planting in containers can be a viable solution if you're unable to amend existing poor soil. People like renters have limited privileges to change the property. In these cases using planters on porches, patios, balconies and decks are definitely an option. 🪴
PS
I found this little variegated rubber plant at a garden center. It had lost most of its leaves, so was discounted to $5. It’s in rehab now. We’ll see how it goes. 🩹🌱
