Caring for yourself in a world that is constantly shifting and changing can be a challenge. Cultivating calm and focus despite outside influences has been a journey for me for many years. I've done multiple things to manage stress and become more productive, such as exercising, meditating, and blocking off time to read and decompress. One of my favorite things to do is to bring a little bit of nature indoors.

It doesn't require blocking your schedule to incorporate a new routine or require high levels of focus. Simply doing things like opening the curtains to let in sunlight can be huge. I like to put reminders of nature around the house. A faux succulent planter on the bookcase. Green houseplants in the kitchen window. Fresh flowers on the dining room table. It makes me smile and appreciate their beauty. It reminds me that there are lovely things no matter the mess.

A Harvard study in 2006 revealed that people who spent time around live flowers noticed a positive difference in their mood and compassion.

I encourage you to bring a little bit of nature into your everyday life. If you already spend a lot of time outdoors or with plants, take a little time to appreciate nature's beauty. Allow yourself to reflect on the good and positive things in your life. Find the calm in the midst of the chaos. Peace despite the noise.
